Artificial Flower Table Runners for Weddings: Size, Construction and How to Order

A table flower runner is a long, low floral piece that lies down the middle of a table. Wedding planners use them on long guest tables, on the top table, along the aisle and at the front edge of a stage. Made with artificial flowers, the same runner can be used at one wedding after another.

We make these in our factory in Jinhua, China. This page shows one of them from the front and from the back, with a tape measure on it, so you can see what you are buying before you ask for a price.

What This Runner Is Made Of

The piece in the photo is about 100 cm long and 35 cm wide. The flowers are fabric: roses in three pinks and a champagne, pink hydrangea for filling, and small sprays of white baby’s breath that break up the outline.

Turn it over and you see how it is built.

The back of the same runner: a foam base about 82 cm long, with a green backing under the flowers.
  • A foam base. The white strip is about 82 cm long. The flower stems are pushed into it, and it keeps the runner flat on the table.
  • A green backing. A mat of small artificial leaves sits between the foam and the flowers, so no white shows through from the side.
  • Flowers that overhang. The flowers extend past the base at both ends and along both sides. That is why the finished piece measures 100 cm on an 82 cm base.

The overhang matters when you plan a table. Two runners placed end to end meet flower to flower, so the join is hard to see.

How Many Runners for One Table

Measure the table, then decide whether you want the flowers to run the full length or to sit as separate groups with candles or place cards between them.

Table length Full length of flowers Groups with gaps
About 1.8 m (6 ft) 2 runners, with a little overlap 1 runner in the centre
About 2.4 m (8 ft) 2 runners, leaving space at each end for settings 2 runners with a gap
Long banquet rows Count 1 runner per metre Count 1 runner per 1.5 to 2 m

These numbers are for a 100 cm runner. Check the width too: a 35 cm runner leaves room for plates on a table 90 cm wide or more. On a narrow table, ask for a slimmer piece.

Colors

In our showroom the runners are laid out in rows by color: white, champagne, deep red, pink and purple. You can start from one of these and change the mix.

If you need a palette to match a wedding theme, send a Pantone number, a fabric swatch or a photo. Runners can be ordered together with matching pieces, such as a flower wall, hanging flowers or flower balls, so that the shades agree across the room. You can see those on our artificial wedding flowers page, along with a short video of this runner.

Fabric or Real Touch

This runner uses fabric flowers, and for most tables that is the right choice. Guests see a runner from a seat, not from a few centimetres away, and fabric keeps a large piece light.

If you want the flowers nearest the couple to stand up to a closer look, a few real touch flowers can be worked into a fabric runner. Tell us where the runner will sit and we will suggest a mix.

What to Check on a Sample

  • From the side. Kneel to table height. You should see flowers and green, not foam.
  • Gaps. Look straight down. The base should not show between the flower heads.
  • Fixing. Lift the runner by one end and give it a light shake. Nothing should drop out.
  • After unpacking. Ask for the sample to be packed the way bulk goods will be. Fabric petals flatten in a carton, so see how much reshaping it needs.
  • Color under your lighting. Pinks and champagnes shift under warm venue lights. Check the sample where it will be used, or under a similar lamp.
